OUR STORY
A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER & DESIGNER
Free The Edit was born from a desire to create beautiful, high-quality clothing that is consciously designed and ethically handmade. We feel that the perfect wardrobe consists of timeless and sustainable not-so-basic-basics that layer like bricks onto a foundation of vintage treasures. Elegant every day pieces crafted to be worn, loved and cherished for years to come.
Owned, run and led by women, we are a small business that operates with equality, honesty and integrity at our core. We lead from our hearts, have compassion for our suppliers, employees and the Earth and believe that quality products can only be produced in quality environments. We do things mindfully and with the best of intentions, approaching life with a “less is more” outlook and striving to constantly improve our impact on the planet.
“Growing up in a creative family in the hills of Mullumbimby, I developed a deep appreciation and connection with the arts and with nature. Working in fashion, for me, was a natural progression that married my love of creating beautiful things with the art of self-expression. After years of being in this industry, and seeing the movement towards fast-fashion, I felt called to embark on the journey of creating my own label–a label that was sustainable and that felt clean from the inside out; a label that I could be proud of, with an intentional, less is more, approach to consumerism; a label founded with a commitment to quality, ethics, accessibility and being a force for good.”

WE ARE SUSTAINABLE STYLE AND #SLOWFASHION
Linen, the primary fabric used throughout our collection, is widely renowned for its relaxed vibe and breathable comfort, but what you may not know is that it’s completely sustainable. Naturally derived from the fibers of the flax plant which can be used in its entirety and requires low levels of water for growth, linen fabric is beautifully soft yet incredibly durable making it the perfect choice for conscious fashion.
All of our products are beautifully hand-crafted with responsible production practices at the core. We care deeply about ethical labour, and carefully oversee our production facilities in Bali to ensure our supply chain supports fair labour and working conditions and above standard wages. As a small business, we intentionally partner with small family-run factories as a way to support the local economy. We strive for zero-waste production and place patterns as tightly as possible to minimize off-cuts which we then repurpose into small accessories like our masks and scrunchies.
We are a slow fashion label, with each garment thoughtfully designed to hold a permanent presence in your wardrobe. Each piece in our collection builds upon the next and is designed for you to mix, match, and layer to create everyday looks that express your personal style. Our styles are designed to be timeless and elegant, built to last with high quality materials. We encourage a thoughtful approach to shopping. Inspiring conscious consumption and a ‘buy less, buy better’ philosophy that emphasises investing in quality items that have timeless style and low cost-per-wear.
We are committed to the ongoing journey of being a force for change within the fashion industry and hope that you will join us on our mission.
WE GIVE BACK
Free The Edit donates a percentage of every online sale to Mission Pawsible, a charity close to our hearts. Founded in Australia and based on the Island of Bali, their incredible team of animal heroes works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home animals from unimaginable circumstances, seeing hope where most see none and giving those without a voice a chance for a better life.
Michi, one of our founder’s beloved four-legged family members, was found in dire condition on the roadside and graciously rescued by the loving hands at Mission Pawsible. Now a thriving, spirited, happy (& fluffy) girl, Michi takes her duties as one-half of the FTE Mascot Squad very seriously, always keeping the team on colour palette (off-white preferred) and trend (gingham collars only).
In addition to our ongoing partnership with Mission Pawsible we have made the commitment to make a lump-sum donation in support of an additional worthy cause each month. The charity will be selected by our team based on current global issues and our passion to make a difference in the world and in the lives of others.
